After much reflection, I’ve decided to take Amy Buchanan Photography in a new direction – horses. Focusing exclusively on creating fine art equine images, I will no longer be taking on portrait sessions or weddings. I have truly enjoyed all of my portrait and wedding clients, but my first love has always been the horse.
In the coming weeks and months, changes will make their way to this blog, a new website and client offerings. Stay tuned for the exciting changes!

Awakening
On a perfect April evening, perfection danced past me. I was expecting greatness, but instead I witnessed a waltz of strength wrapped in elegant grace. The Apple Blossom Invitational was supposed to be an almost match race between the two premier Thoroughbred fillies in the land - the indomitable Rachel Alexandra and the unbeaten Zenyatta. By race day, though, only Zenyatta was left to challenge the rest of the field.
Standing as close to the track as I could manage and working my way down front to the finish line, I saw a filly who reminded me more of the great Secretariat than of a fragile female. She pranced and she danced and she posed, seemingly knowing everyone was there for her – and her alone.
And then she ran – alone, huge strides reaching far beyond any would-be challenger, never falling back, always pushing forward. Crossing the finish line with any who dared to contend still several lengths behind, another step was taken in the race towards perfection.
In a couple of weeks, Zenyatta will put her elegant strength on display once again in the 2010 Breeders Cup. Amongst the boys, winning will be a greater challenge. But at 16-0, I expect perfection to continue its dance into history.

Zenyatta, this may be your last waltz, so show the boys how to dance.
